Saburo Fujiki fired a 3-under-par 68 Friday to set himself up for his first victory in eight years as he took a one-shot lead halfway through the JCB Classic Sendai golf tournament.
Fujiki followed his first-round 67 with another solid round that featured four birdies and one bogey on his way to a 7-under 135 total at the par-71 Omotezao Kokusai Golf Club course in Miyagi Prefecture. Toshiaki Odate, who began the day in joint second with Fujiki, stands alone in second after shooting a 69.
Kido takes lead
NARUTO, Tokushima Pref. (Kyodo) Tour veteran Fuki Kido shot a 5-under-par 67 Friday to take the first-round lead in the Resort Trust Ladies golf tournament.
Kido grabbed a two-shot lead over Chihiro Nakajima and Mayumi Murai after carding five birdies at the Grandee Naruto Golf Club in Tokushima Prefecture in her bid to end a two-year title drought.
