Yusaku Iriki (4-0) scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked two over the distance en route to his first career shutout as the Yomiuri Giants blanked the Hiroshima Carp 2-0 on Tuesday at Hiroshima Stadium.
Iriki used a good combination of fastballs and changeups and prevented the Carp, who suffered their first shutout this season, from reaching third base.
In the third inning, rookie catcher Shinnosuke Abe hit a run-scoring double. Two outs later Takayuki Shimizu singled home Abe for a 2-0 lead.
