Tour rookie Hiroko Yamaguchi fired a personal best 7-under 65 on Saturday to leapfrog 10 players and grab sole possession of the lead after the second round of the Katokichi Queens tournament.

Yamaguchi, playing in her first season since qualifying for the Japanese LPGA tour last autumn, carded seven birdies in a flawless round at the Yashima Country Club for a 36-hole total of 7-under 137 and a one-stroke lead over Kasumi Fujii.

"That is the best round I have ever had in my life," said a delighted Yamaguchi, who qualified for the JLPGA circuit on her third attempt.
