J2 newcomer Yokohama FC stunned J1 club Tokyo Verdy 1969 2-0 on Wednesday night at Tokyo Stadium, advancing to the second round of the J. League Nabisco Cup.
Yokohama midfielder Hirotoshi Yokoyama put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute scoring from a free-kick and forward Masami Sato slotted home a Shingi Ono pass in the 77th minute to make the aggregate score 3-1.
Oita Trinita lost to Consadole Sapporo 2-1 in Muroran in the only day game of the program, but J1 promotion candidate Oita booked its spot in the next round thanks to its 2-0 first-leg win two weeks ago. Sapporo's Brazilian forward Will struck twice against his old team, while Kazuki Sato found the net for the visitors.
