Toshihisa Nishi drove home a game-ending run with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Yomiuri Giants overcame a 5-0 down to beat the Yakult Swallows 6-5 on Thursday night at the Tokyo Dome.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second, Yakult closer Shingo Takatsu got a bunt from Tomohiro Nioka and threw the ball to third. But Yakult third baseman Akinori Iwamoto failed to catch the ball, allowing Kazuhiro Kiyohara to score a game-tying run.
With the bases loaded and one out in the frame, Nishi hit a single to shallow right for the Giants' third "sayonara" of the season.
