I probably play golf more than 80 times a year around the world. It's a tough life, but someone has to do it. And besides, it's my job.
Fortunately, I rarely have to pay.
One of the exceptions is when I play at municipal courses in the United States. Recently I visited Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif., on a Sunday and played with one of my golfing buddies over there, 79-year-old Laura Cook, mother of Steve, the former South American Tour commissioner. The weekday twilight (late afternoon/early evening) rate is only $7. You may not get to play 18 holes, but you can keep going until you can't see your ball any more. For residents of the area, it's only $21 for 18 holes at the weekend, $27 for non-residents.
