Trouble for JAWOC

The Japanese World Cup Organizing Committee on Thursday announced the postponement of its acceptance of volunteer applications for the 2002 World Cup through the Internet due to the financial problems of ISL Worldwide, the marketing company for FIFA.

Mail-in applications, however, will be accepted beginning April 16 through June 15. The application forms are available at local government offices, World Cup official shops and Prefectural Football Associations of the 10 host venues as well as the JAWOC headquarters in Tokyo.

The forms can also be obtained by downloading from the JAWOC Web site ( www.jawoc.or.jp ). For more information, please contact JAWOC at (03) 3287-2009.

JAWOC was earlier forced to put off ticket sales through the Internet from last October until February.

A Swiss court on Thursday turned down a request from the ISMM Group, ISL Worldwide's parent company, for postponement of its pending bankrupcy. ISMM will make an appeal to a higher court.
