Japan's Satoru Terao qualified fastest for the men's 1,500-meter final Friday, but had to settle for a share of the silver medal with South Korean Min Ryoung at the Short-track Speedskating World Championships. Terao and Min clocked 2 minutes, 20.667 seconds at Jeonju Arena to finish joint runnersup behind Canada's Marc Gagnon, who won the gold medal in a time of 2:20.325.

Japan's Takafumi Nishitani and Yugo Shinohara both reached the semifinal stage, but failed to advance to the final. In the women's 1,500 meters, China's Yang Yang, chasing her fifth straight overall title at the short-track World Championships, won the final in 2:40.448 from Bulgaria's Evgenia Radanova.
