South Korean right-hander Chung Min Tae will miss the opening of the season with the Yomiuri Giants next week because of an injury to his left leg, officials of the Central League club said Friday. Chung injured the achilles tendon in his left ankle Thursday covering first base in an exhibition game with the Yokohama BayStars at Tokyo Dome. Doctors at a Tokyo hospital said the injury will require three weeks to heal completely.
Chung, who helped South Korea win bronze at the Sydney Olympics last fall, was signed by Yomiuri during the offseason from the Hyundai Unicorns and has been tested in starting and relief situations this spring with the Giants.
