The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Sunday approved the participation of an inter-Korean team for the world championships to be held in Osaka in April and May.

The ITTF gave the green light four days after South Korean Culture and Tourism Minister Kim Han Gil announced an agreement with North Korea that will field a unified team comprising 25 players from each country for the tournament, which will begin April 23.

It will be the first unified table tennis team between the two Koreas since the 1991 world championships in Chiba.
