Internet ticket sales in South Korea and Japan for the 2002 World Cup were temporarily suspended Monday morning due to a computer glitch, just one day after the start of applications following a 10-day delay.
Informed sources attributed the latest glitch to excessive applications on FIFA's official Web site.
"It seems the ticket application site has been unable to cope with the number of fans applying online for World Cup tickets, resulting in a temporary delay," a source said.
The news came 24 hours after FIFA, which postponed the original Feb. 15 start of online ticket applications in Japan and South Korea, informed JAWOC and its South Korean counterpart KOWOC that Japanese and South Korean fans could apply for tickets via its official Web site.
