French snowboarders Christophe Segura and Julie Pomagalski won the World Cup parallel giant slalom competitions on the opening day of the tour's Asahikawa series in Hokkaido.

Segura ousted leading contenders Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada and American Christopher Klug en route to his first World Cup victory in three years, while Pomagalski captured her first career title by beating Rosey Fletcher of the United States into second place.

None of the Japanese competitors advanced past the preliminaries.
