Takao Suzuki whipped Danai Udomchoke in straight sets Friday to make up for teammate Goichi Motomura's earlier defeat to Paradorn Srichaphan as Japan and Thailand split the first day of their Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone first-round tie.
Suzuki, currently ranked 145th on the ATP Tour, had no problem in disposing of Danai as the sixth-year pro eased to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 victory at Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo. Motomura lost 6-1, 7-5, 6-4.
