Yokozuna Takanohana pulled down rival grand champion Musashimaru for a second straight day Sunday to win the overall championship and a first prize of 4 million yen in a single-elimination sumo tournament at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Takanohana, who won the first-day bracket on Saturday, fell to sekiwake Wakanosato in the quarterfinals of the second day's wrestling, but came back in the championship playoff to drag Musashimaru down by the belt for his first triumph here in four years.
Musashimaru, who lost out to Takanohana on Saturday, marched out Wakanosato to win the second day's bracket after backing stablemate Miyabiyama out of the ring in the semifinals.
Wakanosato muscled out rank-and-file maegashira Tamakasuga in the other semifinal.
