The Japan Tennis Association on Tuesday named Japanese men's ace Takao Suzuki and defending national champion Goichi Motomura to the Davis Cup team for Japan's regional zone tie with Thailand.
Thailand counters with Paradorn Srichaphan, 116th in the ATP rankings released Monday, and Dani Udomchoke (271st) for the Asia-Oceania zone first round match Feb. 16-18 at Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo.
Suzuki, currently ranked 145th by the ATP, and unranked Motomura, who finished last year at 211, will be joined by Yaoki Ishii and Thomas Shimada.
Thailand's team will be filled out by Narathorn Srichaphan and Vittaya Samrej, who are listed at 807th in the ATP doubles rankings.
