World champion Sylke Otto of Germany edged compatriot Silke Kraushaar for her third win of the season while American pair Mark Grimette and Brian Martin posted their first victory in a luge World Cup meet Sunday.

Japanese Olympic team member Yumie Kobayashi finished a disappointing 19th in the women's event despite competing "at home" on the Spiral luge course in Nagano, while the pair of Takahisa Oguchi and Kei Takahashi finished 14th in the doubles race.

Otto, second in the World Cup standings, posted the best times on both runs for a winning aggregate time of 1 minute, 41.416 seconds for her second straight tour victory after a triumph in Altenberg, Germany, two weeks ago.

World Cup leader Kraushaar came in second with 1:41.859, while Austria's Angelika Neuner was third in 1:42.385 to strengthen her hold on third in the tour rankings.

Meanwhile, Kobayashi rebounded slightly from a disastrous first run of 52.260 seconds and 23rd place to edge into 19th with an aggregate of 1:44.050.

In the doubles event, Olympic bronze medalists Grimette and Martin, also third on the current World Cup rankings, prevailed over their German rivals with a total time of 1:40.544.

Andre Florschutz and Torsten Wustlich, second in the World Cup standings, finished second with a time of 1:40.836, ahead of tour leaders Steffen Skel and Steffen Woller.
