Former Japanese women's tennis ace Kimiko Date is to marry German racing driver Michael Krumm, the four-time Japan Open women's singles titlist announced Friday.
Date, the former world No. 4, made the announcement on her Internet home page saying that she and Krumm had "become close at the end of last year" and had "started making plans for their wedding."
While a date has yet to be confirmed, the 30-year-old Date, a 1996 Wimbledon semifinalist who retired from the women's professional circuit the same year, said they hope to hold the ceremony sometime this year.
Krumm has been racing in Japan since 1993 and finished second in last year's Formula Nippon Championship.
