Japan under-19 international Yoshito Okubo scored twice Monday as Kunimi of Nagasaki Prefecture beat Shiga's Kusatsu Higashi 3-0 in the final to win its fourth national high school soccer championship.
Kunimi took a 2-0 halftime lead through Okubo's simple tap-in and a mid-range strike from Kazuhiro Kawada at Tokyo's National Stadium, before Okubo rifled home his eighth goal of the 49-team tournament from 25 meters with seven minutes left.
Kunimi's first championship in eight years gave the school its third major youth-level title of the season following victories in the inter-high and national sports festival tournaments.
The only title it missed was the national youth championship, which features high schools and youth teams of J. League clubs.
