The Kashima Antlers became the first team to capture the domestic treble Monday by winning the Emperor's Cup 3-2 over Shimizu S-Pulse after extra time at Tokyo's National Stadium.
The victory completed Kashima's unprecedented treble after earlier triumphs in the Nabisco Cup and the J. League Championship under the guidance of Brazilian boss Toninho Cerezo in his first season at Kashima.
Kashima midfielder Mitsuo Ogasawara struck the spectacular winning goal in the 92nd minute. Ogasawara, who scored the opener and set up Takayuki Suzuki's tie-breaking goal earlier in the game, was named Man of the Match.
