Underdog Hosei University stunned Keio University with its powerful defense before rallying past the defending champion 15-13 in the semifinals of the National Collegiate Rugby Union Championship on Tuesday at Tokyo's National Stadium.
Hosei, advancing to the final for the first time since 1995, will face Kanto Gakuin University on Jan. 13 at the same venue.
Two-time college champion Kanto Gakuin, using the heavy wind to its advantage, outplayed Doshisha University 33-19 in the other semifinal to reach the final for the fourth year in a row.
