J. League club Vissel Kobe on Monday announced the acquisition of former Japan star Kazuyoshi Miura, who was released by newly relegated first-division side Kyoto Purple Sanga late last month.

Kobe did not disclose details of the deal on the 33-year-old striker, who will wear jersey No. 11 for Vissel next season.

Soccer sources, however, said Kobe and Miura apparently agreed to an annual salary of 60 million yen to 70 million yen, compared to the 80 million yen he received from Kyoto this year.

Miura finished the 2000 J. League season third in the list of leading scorers with 17 goals. He earned a recall to the Japan squad for last Wednesday's home friendly with South Korea but was kept on the substitutes' bench.

Miura played for Verdy Kawasaki for six seasons from the J. League's inaugural season in 1993 and had spells abroad with Italian Serie A side Genoa in 1995 and more recently Croatia Zagreb before joining Kyoto in August last year.
