The Hiroshima Carp have renewed the contracts of infielder Luis Lopez and pitcher Eric Ludwick, officials of the Central League club said Monday.

Lopez, who returned to Hiroshima in late May after a three-year leave, agreed to a two-year deal carrying an 80 million yen yearly salary for the 2001 season, while Ludwick will earn 45 million yen.

Lopez finished the 2000 season with a .313 average, 20 homers and 88 RBIs in 93 games. Ludwick was 1-0 with a 5.93 earned run average in eight games after joining the Carp in June from the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis.
