JFL champion Yokohama FC, formed by former Yokohama Flugels supporters two years ago, won official approval from the J. League on Tuesday for promotion to the J. League Division Two from the non-professional league.
J. League chairman Saburo Kawabuchi said Yokohama still has several problems to sort out, including financial stability and training facilities, but the pro league's executive committee gave gave the green light to the club for its potential as the first pro club formed by citizens.
Yokohama FC will play its home games at Mitsuzawa Stadium.
