PITTSBURGH -- Conjuring up images such as the "Steel Curtain" or "Blitzburgh," Three Rivers Stadium has been always a symbol of the Pittsburgh Steelers' strong defense throughout their 30-year history. And so it was on the last day.
The Steelers, whose reputation has been marked by an aggressive defense, registered two interceptions and forced three fumbles en route to beating the Washington Redskins 24-3 Saturday in the final National Football League game to be played at Three Rivers Stadium.
The Steelers improved to 8-7 and kept alive their very thin hopes of making the playoffs while the Redskins, who were rated the No. 1 Super Bowl contenders coming into the season, found themselves out of the postseason party with a 7-8 record.
