Twelve-year-old Ai Fukuhara fell in round 32 in the women's singles competition Friday, but Olympic team member Chire Koyama remained on track for her eighth national title in the table tennis national championships.
Fukuhara fell in straight sets 21-19, 21-13, 21-17 to Saori Sakamoto of Osaka at the Nagoya Sports Complex while Koyama defeated fellow Olympic team member An Konishi to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the men's singles, defending champion Hiroshi Shibutani advanced to the fourth round while Hitoshi Kobayashi and Miyuki Nishii won their first mixed doubles crown.
