Former yokozuna Wakanohana is set to leave the Japan Sumo Association, sumo sources said Sunday, but the reasons behind his decision were not immediately known.
Wakanohana, who has been known as sumo elder Fujishima since hanging up his sumo loincloth in March, is reportedly interested in becoming one of Japan's many television personalities and plans to deliver his resignation letter to the association before the end of the year.
Wakanohana said that he will make a formal announcement concerning his resignation "when it should be made." The 29-year-old ended his competitive career in March this year, following a spate of injuries and a falling out with his brother Takanohana.
