Daisuke Matsuzaka shook off some first-inning jitters and a quick one-run deficit Tuesday to hold the Daiei Hawks scoreless over the next nine frames and give the Seibu Lions a 2-1 victory in 10 innings at the Fukuoka Dome.
Matsuzaka (13-7) went all 10 innings on 144 pitches to end Daiei's five-game winning streak and keep the Lions alive in the Pacific League pennant race.
With the win, the Lions cut the Hawks' lead in the PL standings to 4 1/2 games. Daiei is still three wins away from clinching its second straight league championship.
