Japan's women got off to a winning start Thursday as Yukiko Takahashi and Mikia Saiki reached the last eight of the women's beach volleyball tournament at the Sydney Olympics.

Takahashi and Saiki took just 24 minutes to eliminate Czech pair Eva Celbova and Sona Dosoudilova with a 15-2 whipping at Bondi Beach to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal.

The Japanese duo served up a string of aces to lead 8-2 at the midway mark before picking up the next seven points to complete the rout.
