The Yakult Swallows narrowed the gap on the Central League-leading Yomiuri Giants on Wednesday night as outfielder Mitsuru Manaka drove in the winning run in a 4-3 victory at Jingu Stadium.
A wild pitch from Giants reliever Hiromi Makihara tied the game at 3-3 before Manaka connected on an RBI single to center field to give Swallows pitcher Ryota Igarashi his league-best 10th win and close the gap to 3 1/2 games at the top of the CL standings.
