Yomiuri Giants pitcher Darrell May was fined and suspended by the Central League on Thursday after throwing at the head of Hanshin pinch-hitter Yutaka Wada in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Tigers.
With the Giants leading 3-0 in the top of the seventh inning, Wada twice stepped out of the batter's box at Tokyo Dome just as May was going into his wind-up.
But after Wada stepped out a third time, May, seeing that Wada was not in the batter's box, continued with his motion and appeared to deliberately send a pitch sailing close to the head of the surprised Hanshin batter.
