Outfielder Kojiro Machida belted a solo homer in the third inning Wednesday and Tomonori Maeda followed with a two-run blast in the fifth to lead the Hiroshima Carp to an 8-7 victory over the Yakult Swallows.
Masato Kawano (2-1) came on in the third inning at Jingu Stadium in relief of Hiroshima starter Takaya Kawauchi and picked up the win, despite giving up a grand slam homer to Satoshi Takahashi in the fifth inning.
With the win the Carp moved back into first place in the Central League standings.

At Yokohama Stadium, Daisuke Motoki drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded single to right in the top of the 10th to lift Yomiuri to a win over the BayStars.
Giants reliever Hideki Okajima (1-0) took the mound in the seventh and tossed three scoreless innings for the win.

In Gifu, Melvin Bunch (5-1) scattered six hits over seven innings as Chunichi blanked Hanshin to snap a three-game losing streak.

Tony Fernandez drove in a pair of runs with a clutch bases-loaded single in the seventh inning to lift the Lions to a victory over last-place Lotte at the Seibu Dome.
Seibu starter Tetsuya Shiozaki (2-2) tossed a one-hitter while fanning 10 over 7 1/3 innings for the win.

Hiroki Yamamura (2-3) went the distance while giving up one run on five hits as Kintetsu downed front-running Orix at Yonago Stadium in Tottori Prefecture.

At the Fukuoka Dome, infielder Michihiro Ogasawara went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and starter Hiroshi Shintani (3-1) tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings for the win as Nippon Ham blanked Daiei.
