Hidemichi Tanaka broke away from overnight co-leader Mitsutaka Kusakabe with three birdies on the front nine of a 3-under-par 67 Sunday to win the 110 million yen Chunichi Crowns golf tournament by five strokes.

Tanaka carded three birdies without a bogey on the front nine of the Nagoya Golf Club's par-70 Wago Course to open up a four-stroke lead over Kusakabe and then made a bogey-free tour of the inward nine to seal victory with an 8-under 272 total.

Tanaka, winner of the Shizuoka Open title in March, added 22 million yen to his Japan tour-leading total of 52 million yen with his second triumph of the season. It was his eighth tour victory overall.

Kusakabe, meanwhile, fell off the pace with back-to-back bogeys on the third and fourth holes of the final round and could not make up the difference, carding only three birdies against five bogeys for a 2-over 72 to finish the tourney at 3-under.
