Nobuyuki Hoshino notched his first win since joining Hanshin from Orix as a free agent, pitching a five-hit complete game as the Tigers defeated the Central League champion Chunichi Dragons 7-1 at Koshien Stadium on Friday night.
The victory gave Hanshin skipper Katsuya Nomura the 1,200th win of managerial career. Nomura formerly managed the Nankai Hawks, Seibu Lions and Yakult Swallows.
Hoshino (1-1), blending fastballs and breaking balls well, gave up five hits and one run, a solo homer to Leo Gomez in the fourth inning, over the distance.
