JAWOC, the Japanese organizing committee for the 2002 World Cup of soccer, said Wednesday that top-priced tickets for the final in Yokohama will go on sale in Japan for as much as 85,000 yen each, while overseas fans will have to pay up to $750.
Committee officials also said that tickets for the final at International Stadium Yokohama will be divided into three categories, but did not disclose how much the least expensive seats for the June 30 match would cost.
Tickets for first-round fixtures will cost fans up to 17,000 yen, while prices for the knockout stages will be subject to change, the officials said.
Exact details about price and distribution of tickets will be announced after consultation with soccer's world governing body FIFA, the committee said.
Tickets for the 1998 World Cup final in France went as high as about 47,000 yen.
JAWOC officials said that Japanese organizers would start handling applications for tickets from September, with distribution to be decided by lottery.
JAWOC is unhappy that FIFA has allotted cohosts Japan and South Korea just 750,000 tickets each -- amounting to half of the 3 million tickets to go on sale -- and said it will continue to lobby for an increase.
