Tennis player Alexandra Stevenson could be excused if she chose to respond to questions on her family background with a terse "no comment."
But the bubbly 19-year-old American, who is in Tokyo this week chasing down her first WTA Tour title at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, is refreshingly open about her past, and an interesting past it is.
Stevenson shocked the tennis world last year by becoming the first woman qualifier to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon. But that wasn't the biggest surprise she provided. When it was revealed that her father was former NBA great Julius "Dr. J" Erving, the tabloid press in London had one of those "steamy" subplots they cherish so much.
