Americans take their soldiers very seriously, and if it were found out that such primitive conditions were being imposed on U.S. soldiers, there would be an utter sh—storm — and not just from right-wing zealots.
Putting U.S. soldiers in Japanese jails is probably the absolute fastest, surest way to reveal to the world Japan's shameful criminal justice system.
After all the bs the Olympic Committee was slinging, I'm sure that's the last thing the guys on top want.
