Regarding the Sept. 7 commentary by Ted Rall titled "Breaking bad: Why a U.S. strike would be illegal": Most Americans are opposed. One poll I read only showed 6 percent positive support among registered voters for a strike, which is abysmal. Also, the U.S. is heavily in debt and just can't keep spending so much on defense and wars unless we absolutely have to. I think the electorate has woken up to this fact and is tired of the last 12 years of war — at the very least we need a break and we need to re-appraise the fight against terrorism. Also neither side in Syria really represents the best interests of the American people (or probably even the Syrian people) so I don't think supporting either faction is appropriate.
