Regarding the Dec. 13 article "Defiant Chinese plane intrudes over Senkakus": May I suggest that Japan and Taiwan (with approval of China) offer to jointly transfer full sovereignty of the Senkaku Islands to the Republic of Nauru.

Nauru is one of only a few nations that give full diplomatic recognition to Taiwan. Yet China also has an office on the island. As Nauru poses little military threat and is in need of long-term economic support, the transfer of sovereignty would be an act of economic kindness by all three countries.

Each disputing country could then achieve almost the full development of resources within the Senkakus and their shared area with Nauru with a modest but fair royalty to Nauru for its cooperation. Of the three powers, all win and no one loses.
