Regarding the Dec. 6 Kyodo survey article, "LDP set to win majority in general election": Japanese voters are being presented with the same false dichotomy that voters around the world face every few years — the "choice" to give power of attorney to a stranger to extort some concession for their majority at the expense of some minority in the name of practical justice.

The charade is more interesting in Japan because of the musical chairs over party identity. It ought not be so difficult if the candidates actually had a coherent framework of values. They don't, and you will never see such ideas so long as perceptions rather than reasons are the standard of value.
