The Japan Times is to be commended for the courage to publish the Nov. 27 article from former South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung Soo, titled "Heed history in East Asian territorial disputes."
There is no loss of face but rather a gain of respect for Japan if it faces up to history. There is much to learn from Germany in how to deal with the history of World War II. To continue to allow, and even coerce, a distorted view of history is the greatest disservice the Japanese government can do to its citizens.
It is hoped that courageous citizens who take an honest view of history will stand up and exert their influences for a truly respectable Japan.
