Regarding the Sept. 18 article "Panetta tells Japan, China to resolve Senkaku row peacefully": U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has a lot of nerve telling Japan and China what to do.
The United States has failed to withdraw its forces from Okinawa and remove its air bases from throughout Japan for 40 years. The U.S. Defense Department is setting up a military base in Australia, by all appearances, to instigate a new Cold War with China. Did he visit the Asia-Pacific region last week with that goal in mind?
He tells Asians to be peaceful while his country continues to act out its ambitions in the Middle East. Panetta needs to return home and to downsize the military and intelligence budgets so that the U.S. won't start any more wars of conquest, greed and fraud.
