I was truly shocked after reading the Nov. 1 Community page article "Justice stalled in brutal (March 2010) death of deportee (Abubakar Awadu Suraj of Ghana)." Thank you for putting this story on The Japan Times Web site. Please keep us informed of the outcome of the court case and truth of what really happened.
Why won't television stations report on this? Who knows exactly what goes on behind the walls of immigration detention centers?
I hope the government will properly investigate this case. The immigration officers involved need to be properly questioned about how exactly he was restrained and why there was no videotape of his being put on the plane.
Perhaps the airline staff saw what happened.
My heart goes out to his wife, mother and children. I hope justice will be done and this type of thing will not happen again.
