Regarding the Oct. 1 Kyodo article "Plutonium traces found in Iitate (Fukushima Prefecture) soil": Traces of plutonium will be found at every location on Earth if the test is sensitive enough.
Stories like this could either point out real problems, or they can rile the populace into a panic that is entirely inappropriate, unnecessary and destructive. In these types of articles, we need information regarding the amount of plutonium found at a certain location along with levels found at other locations that have not been affected by the recent nuclear power plant disaster.
