Regarding the May 11 Kyodo article "Opposition rejects Kan's recovery efforts": It seems that the opposition parties are seeking political gains from the disaster caused by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. They completely forget that they are the ones that created the framework for the current energy and safety policy.
In addition, if I am not mistaken, it was the opposition Liberal Democratic Party that ruled the country when problems at nuclear power generation facilities occurred in the past. Current disaster prevention plans or, better, the complete lack of them is the LDP's doing. Now, instead of cooperating with the government, it tries to create obstacles.
I do not think the current (Democratic Party of Japan-ruled) government has the solution to most of this country's problems, but in times like this, it is the duty of everyone who has been elected by the citizens of Japan to do his or her best to overcome the calamity instead of seeking cheap political gains.
