Regarding the March 29 article "Aso mulling tax break for wealthy": In my view, the plan unveiled by Prime Minister Taro Aso may very well be just what is needed in Japan and in many other countries. It is basic economics that consumption is stimulated by a reduction in tax burdens, thereby creating incentives for spending and passing on wealth.
Such a plan may not be popular in some political environments, and may even be viewed as too controversial to raise in the public domain. Bold leadership is hard to come by in an insecure world. Other world leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, are raising the bar for leadership and challenging us all to take and understand risk, accountability and new technologies in the 21st century.
