In his Jan. 9 article, "End in sight to Prabhakaran's warped war," the writer (Gautaman Bhaskaran) displays an obvious bias with factual inaccuracies. The Tamils are not predominantly Christian but Hindu. Within Hinduism is a caste system in which the Brahmins perceive themselves as superior. The fact that Brahmin-related journalists do not like the Tamil liberation movement in Sri Lanka could account for the bias apparent in some articles.
The writer here seems to forget that the demise of the Tamil Tigers has been predicted time and time again. Even if Prabhakaran is killed, it won't be the end as there is an undisclosed chain of command. The Sri Lankan president could well be in for a surprise in 2009.
The writer's support for the Rajapaksa government of Sri Lanka is amusing given that this regime has been accused of eroding media freedoms and killing great journalists — such as Lasantha Wickrematunge — one by one.
