Regarding the Dec. 8 editorial "Remember Pearl Harbor": Is there something special about dates and Japanese newspapers? One thing that is generally accepted throughout the world is that times and dates of events coincide with the time zone where they take place. Thus U.S. newspapers cite the bombing of Hiroshima as taking place on Aug. 6 — not Aug. 5, which was the actual date in the United States when the atomic bomb was dropped.

Japan may think it is entitled to its own facts, but ultimately that was why it marched into disaster all those years ago and continues to be the reason why it has so much trouble engaging the world. The attack on Pearl Harbor took place on Dec. 7, an occasion that should serve as a day to sharpen the eyes of The Japan Times' editors on getting their dates right.
