Regarding the Oct. 15 article " 'Institutional racism' lets Japan spouses abduct kids": I am in a similar situation. My wife left me and took our child secretly to Japan; there was a divorce and she remained in Japan.

Even though this was hard for me, it must be harder for a young mother to live in a foreign country with no friends, etc. To suggest that a mother can be accused of "abducting" her own child is ridiculous and utterly disrespectful. She has a right to take her own child wherever she wants.

What gives a man any right to try to take children away from their mother? Men in these situations should stop their sobbing and whining and, even in these hard economic times, understand and support the mother of his children -- in the interest of the children.
