Regarding the Oct. 9 letter "Kids don't feel right in park," B.K. Cottle says his daughter has told him she doesn't enjoy the park because of "these people" -- who, according to Cottle, are "the prostitutes, their clients, the drunks, smokers and pedophiles." While the drunks might be obvious, I previously made the point that the other people would surely be indistinguishable from general members of the public to any child who hadn't been made paranoid by those who ought to know better.

Sadly, this does seem to be the trend these days. Thus children might well not "want to go to a park full of playground equipment" -- or indeed to many other places -- because they've been taught it's full of bad people.

As for Cottle's question "Is it too much to ask that the public servants paid with our taxes enforce park regulations?," I can just imagine the scene. Park keeper: "Excuse me, Madam. I notice you're walking through the park with a gentleman. Are you in fact on the game? And is this your client?"
