I don't understand why The Japan Times runs disturbing photos of severed goat heads, people lying dead on dirt roads or, last week, an embalmed body propped up against a wall. What is the point or purpose? Are they "newsworthy"? I think not. On top of that, editors often add captions that they apparently think are clever or funny.
Case in point: The Aug. 20 photo of the embalmed body of a man propped up against a wall in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The man had wanted to be "standing at his own wake," and the title of the photo read "STANDING TALL." Is this an example of light humor? If so, I'm not laughing.
If I want garbage, all I have to do is look on the streets of Tokyo where people dump it every day.
